Topic:  Create & File Prior Year Return(s)

If you were a prior year TaxACT Online user and did not finish your return prior to the IRS deadline of October 15 or if you need to start a new prior year return, you can still prepare and print your return using our TaxACT Online service.

Simply use the link we have provided below to either start a new or sign in to an existing return (you will need to know the Username & Password that you set up for your account at the time of registration to access an existing return). Click on the link below and select which year you need to access.

Prior Year Returns

If you are trying to gain access to your existing prior year TaxACT Online account after the October 15th IRS filing deadline, there will be a nominal one-time Data Archive Service (DAS) fee required the first time you log back in to access your tax return (this fee is included in the charge to start a new TaxACT Online return after October 15th).

This one time DAS fee covers the cost of maintaining our servers to which your tax return file is securely stored; allows you unlimited access for the purpose of amending or printing your tax return; and your tax return remains available to you through May 1st of the third year following your tax return due date (example: 2006 Return - Due Date 4/15/07 Available through 5/1/2010).

This new Data Archive Service (DAS) allows you to:

  • Access your return up to 3 years through May 1st of the third year following the due date of the return.
  • Create a New Return
  • Finish an Existing Return
  • Print a backup copy of your Return for your records
  • (Note: Electronic Filing is no longer available for years prior to 2008)
  • Review your Return
  • Plan for Next Year

Note: The IRS does accept mailed tax return copies for the prior tax years after the October 15th filing deadline.

We believe you will find using this Data Archive Service will put you at ease knowing that your prior year tax return is secure and easily accessible to you for 3 years.
