Topic: Import last year's return - Online
Importing using TaxACT Deluxe Online is a quick and easy process. Please keep these following things in mind when importing:
- 2009 TaxACT Online will allow users to import from BOTH TaxACT Online returns and TaxACT Desktop Returns.
- The Desktop versions of TaxACT will not import returns from TaxACT Online accounts.
- Both TaxACT Online and Desktop versions will allow users to import information from a PDF copy of the 1040, 1040A, or 1040EZ form. This will allow import of information from any tax preparation software used for last year's return.
- IMPORTANT: When you import a prior year return, any data that has already been entered in the new return will be overwritten. For example, by importing from a 2008 return to a 2009 return, the result will be a brand new 2009 return with only imported data. You must import FIRST and then enter data into the new return.
Importing Prior Year Return using TaxACT Online
You may import data from your prior year return by one of two options.
- You can create a new return using the TaxACT Deluxe or TaxACT Ultimate Bundle and click on the link to indicate "Yes, I used TaxACT Online last year". You will be prompted for your prior year username and password, which will be reused for the new return.
- If you have already created a new return with a different username and password, you may import prior year data by clicking the "Basic Information" tab and clicking on "Import".

You will then be prompted for your prior year username and password, as well as the primary taxpayer's SSN for that return.
Regardless of the method used to import, you will be given the opportunity to retrieve the username and reset the password to the prior year account. Simply click on the link indicating "Forgot Username" or "Forgot Password".
If you no longer have access to the email address associated with your account, you may contact TaxACT Customer Service with your full name and zip code, both the old and new email addresses, last four of the primary taxpayer's SSN, and the answer to the secret question you chose when you created the account. Once we receive the correct information and can verify the account we will be more than happy to change the email address listed on the account to allow you to recover your information.
