Earned Income Credit

The Earned Income Credit (EIC) is a tax credit for people who work but do not earn high incomes. For eligible taxpayers, EIC is a valuable tool to lower their taxes or to claim a refund.

There are qualifications that must be met to receive the EIC. The rules for EIC eligibility can be complicated, but TaxACT makes it easy. TaxACT walks you through the process, determining your eligibility for the EIC by asking a series of simple yes or no questions. If you qualify, TaxACT automatically calculates the earned income credit, adjusting your tax refund as you complete your return.

To determine your eligibility for the EIC using TaxACT:

For Desktop (Download / CD) Users:

  1. Start or continue your tax return

  2. In the Tool Bar, click the 'Site Map' button

  3. In the Site Map list, go to '3. Federal QnA - Other Credits' and click on 'Earned Income Tax Credit'

For Online (Over the Web) Users:

  1. Start or continue your tax return

  2. In the Blue Menu Bar, click the 'Site Map' button

  3. In the Site Map window, go to '3. Federal QnA - Other Credits' and click on 'Earned Income Tax Credit'
